Tissue & Cell Culture
Facility with multiple, independent units containing laminar flow hoods, CO2 incubators, LN2 storage facilities, inverted and upright microscopes with photography and fluorescence attachments, FACS, and stocks of nearly 100 different cell lines.
Microbial Type Culture Collection
Facility for maintenance, preservation and identification of Microorganisms, the collection holds over 20,000 cultures of bacteria and fungi and is now recognized as an International Depositary Authority (IDA).
G.N. Ramachandran Protein Centre: Inaugurated on 24, January, 2012 this Protein Scince Centre is one-of-its-kind facility in India, solely focussing on diverse forms of integrated activities on proteins. It houses groups involved in Research & Development involving using basic building blocks of proteins i.e. amino acids to supramolecular assemblies.
In-silico as well as experimental science research is also being carried out for better understanding of functioning of proteins. This unique Protein Science Centre has all requisites to translate findings from basic research into applications for societal good.
Incubator facility for Biopharmaceuticals
Inaugurated on Jan. 24th, 2011 this state of the art cGMP facility is approved by the Drug Controller General of India, for production the of biopharmaceuticals, such as therapeutic proteins through microbial fermentation for toxicology and clinical trials.

The facility is equipped with cGMP and validation compatible fermenters (5 L, 15 L, 40 L, 150 L), downstream processing equipment's such as centrifuges (batch and continuous), lab and pilot scale micro-/ ultrafiltration units, cell disintegration systems, pilot and process scale chromatography systems and analytical equipments etc.
Biosafety Level-3 Facility
Established in the year 2007 this facility is in a separate building (as per national / international norms) to provide safe conduct of biomedical research involving use of virulent pathogens. The facility has separate rooms to conduct in vivo and in vitro research.
Biosafety Level-3 is can be used for clinical, diagnostic, research, technology, etc., using indigenous or exotic agents (Category 3), which may cause serious or potentially lethal disease as a result of exposure by the inhalation route.
Modular Instrumentation Labs
The newly established Modular Instruments Lab facility at CSIR-Institute of Microbial Technology, Chandigarh offers round-the-clock instrumentation service to users for carrying out routine experiments.
Eight such modular instruments labs have been set up spread across the CSIR-IMTECH campus which provides the researchers access to the state-of-art instruments.
Besides normal spectrophotometric techniques such as UV/visible spectrophotometers, ELISA readers, centrifuges, gel-dock systems and phosphoimagers the facility also offers high end purification systems.
Animal House
Experimental animal facility providing several high-quality inbred strains of mice for immunological work, as well as rabbits and hamsters.
Bioinformatics & Biocomputing
Digital Alpha workstation/Silicon Graphics/Apple/Sun/IBM/ 45mbps leased line, Local area networking, Software for molecular modelling; Wifi based Internet accessible from all labs.
Microscopy
Optical microscopes; Confocal microscope with spectral imaging; SEM & TEM X-ray Cystallography: Rotating anode X-ray generator, image plate and microscope. Spectroscopy: UV/Vis Absorption spectrophotometer, Spectrofluorometer, FT-IR Absorption Spectrophotometer and Atomic absorption spectrometer.
Library
Over 160 subscribed periodicals in areas of Institute's expertise; over 6400 reference books and text; journal back issues in paper and microfilm form; microfilm reading facilities.
